Taber Bucknell’s Kingdom Assignment story:

When Pastor Steve handed out the Kingdom Assignment $100 bills in May, 2011 my wife Lisa got one (I was videotaping the service at the back of the room). Lisa knew almost immediately what she was going to do with her $100 (see Lisa’s “Make-A-Wish Kingdom Assignment Story”). I went to Pastor Steve after the service and asked if there were any more $100 bills; he handed me one of the last $100 bills he had to give out. I knew I wanted to try so... Read more

On May 29 Pastor Steve handed out $100 to each family on the condition that we Pray Invest and Report on how we used the money. It would have been very easy to follow the lead from the many inspiring examples we were hearing about how other families had used their money. But for me, the intentional act of inviting God, through prayer into the decision making was an amazing experience. And so I asked God “What would you like us to do with Your money?” And God said, “Go about your life ... Read more

On Sunday 29 May 2011, Pastor Steve gave $100 to each family in the church to invest in God's work; to reach people and make a difference. We left church that day with an eager desire to invest this money in meeting a need for help.

Before we left for church that day, fire trucks had assembled at the rental unit at the end of our block and I had watched the fireman carry a smoking dryer out the front door. So I had a plan even before the service ended. I would find out the extent of the fire... Read more

On Sunday, May 29th when Pastor Steve asked each family to take home $100 dollars to pay forward as a "Kingdom Assignment" into our community, I knew as I waited in line exactly which charity I would be helping. There is an amazing family that lives two doors down the street from our home that we have prayed for and tried to help in any way possible since the birth of their first daughter. Abby was born with a rare genetic condition and as a result her family has spent a great deal of time at C... Read more

Spending this money was much harder than I first thought. It was a hugh responsibility. A lot of people did amazing things and raised a lot of money, so it was a bit intimidating. I really felt that God wanted me to make it personal. God put in my heart a compassion for seniors that are lonely. I wasn't sure how to raise money, when I heard a speaker on CHRI, that mentioned using your gifts that God gave you and using your time were just as valuable as money. After hearing that, I decided ... Read more

As a family we decided to add $150.00 to the $100.00 given to us by Pastor Steve and donate it to something that we felt strongly about. There is a battered women and children's shelter located here in Ottawa, called the Nelson House. We donated not only our money to that house, but a garbage bag full of clothing as well, for the women and children in need.

Mark and I decided to double the Kingdom Assignment funds with our own $100. The day after the assignment was given, our daughter received an unexpected $100 HST credit in the mail and contributed it to the assignment as well. After considerable prayer and consideration, I approached a seniors' long term care facility in the vicinity to see how we may help. The activity director requested 20 folding chairs because it always needs to borrow chairs from other facilities when it has special func... Read more

Since, the day we were given The Kingdom Assignment, we have been praying for our prayers to be answered. As a family of five, it was hard to choose a direction. As months passed by we felt the need to sponsor a child with World Vision.

My co-worker, Mideline, home hand is Haiti. She would tell me the trials and tribulations of her mother's journey to be here in Canada, today. Mideline shows love and devotion everyday as she supports her family here, as well as, her sisters who remain in Haiti.... Read more

This Assignment was harder than we first thought. We as a family have kicked around many ideas over the past couple of months. Although we had some really good ones, none of them took root as “the one” until recently.

We live in such an affluent culture and it is easy to be unaware of suffering elsewhere. But the famine in Africa is undeniable.

After much prayer and contemplation, our family identified an organization called WorldServe (www.worldserve.org) that is reaching out to he... Read more
